They caused controversy when they started dating due to the large age gap between them.

And now Nick Jonas, 19, and 27-year-old Delta Goodrem have announced their split after a 10-month relationship.

The pair released a statement yesterday confirming the news, but insisted they would always remain friends.

The statement read: ‘Nick and Delta have decided mutually to end their relationship.

‘At this point in time, they are both focused on their careers as they go on different paths. They remain friends and wish each other the best for the future.’

Delta was first romantically linked to musician Jonas last May, shortly after her seven-year relationship with Irish singer Brian McFadden ended.

Talking previously about the relationship, Delta said: ‘I’m really lucky to have such a wonderful person in my life.

‘I’m in a really happy place right now. I feel very blessed.’

And despite the age gap between former Neighbours star Delta and her teenage toyboy, her history of relationships follows a different path as she is known for dating older men.

Delta also had a nine-month romance with Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis who, at 34, is eight years older than her.

Jonas has a slightly less colourful past as there hasn’t been too much time in his short life to cram an abundance of relationships into.

He did date Miley Cyrus, 19, however, from June 2006 to December 2007, before she allegedly wrote 7 Things I Hate About You about him following their break-up.
